Transported into a vast subterannean desert, the crew soon encounter the Plains Indians of planet X1, a lost tribe displaced from their homeworld across time and space, having survived the upheaval of a black hole passing through their local continuum.

Initial telepathic exchanges between the codmonauts and the exiled tribe result in a sympathetic alignment of their brain waves, which resonate with the same dimensional oscillations as those emitted by the troublesome plasma sound secretions.
